چکیده

The purpose of writing this review on floating drug delivery systems (FDDS) was to compile the recent literature with special focus on the principal mechanism of floatation to achieve gastric retention. It is known that differences in gastric physiology (such as, gastric pH, motility) exhibit both intraas well as inter-subject variability demonstrating significant impact on gastric retention time and drug delivery behaviour. The recent developments of FDDS including the physiological and formulation variables affecting gastric retention, approaches to design single-unit and multipleunit floating systems, and their classification and formulation aspects are covered in detail. This review also summarizes the studies to evaluate the performance and application of floating systems, and applications of these systems.

Controlled-Release Low Density Effervescent Floating Matrix Tablets of Risperidone: Development, Optimization, in vitro-in vivo Evaluation in Healthy Human Volunteers and Determination of Dissolution Equivalency

The main objective of the present study was to formulate gastroretentive effervescent sustained release drug delivery systems of risperidone floating tablets with the help of Methocel® K15, Ethocel® standard 7FP premium, Eudragit ® RS100 sustained release polymers to improve its safety profile, bioavailability and patient compliance. Risperidone floating tablets were formulated by wet granulati...

بررسی تاثیر نوع و میزان پلیمرهای هیدروفیل بر میزان رهش و خصوصیات شناوری قرص های ماتریکسی پروپرانولول هیدروکلراید

Background and purpose: The gastroretentive drug delivery systems can be retained in the stomach due to low bulk density. This assist in improving the oral sustained delivery of drugs that have an absorption window in a particular region of the gastrointestinal tract. These systems release the drug content before reaching the absorption site and provide optimal bioavailability. Several approach...

Ion-exchange, an Approach to Prepare an Oral Floating Drug Delivery System for Diclofenac

Using ion-exchange resins, a multiple-unit type of oral floating dosage system has been prepared to prolong gastric emptying time of dosage form. The system is composed of beads of drug-resin complex, which are loaded with bicarbonate ions and coated with a hydrophobic polymer. The system is so designed that when the beads reach the stomach, chloride ions are exchanged with bicarbonate and drug...

Drug release kinetics and physicochemical characteristics of floating drug delivery systems.

INTRODUCTION Absorption of drugs through the gastrointestinal tract poses a variety of limitations, making the in vivo performance of drug delivery systems uncertain. Following on from recent advances, in a time of increased consideration of floating drug delivery systems, it is as important as ever to continue the progress by studying different aspects of these systems. Moreover, it seems impe...
